Steve Eckley is a special counsel at Causey & Ye Law. He received his Juris Doctorate from Harvard University in 1981. Prior to Harvard University, Steve received his B.A. with summa cum laude from Drake University in 1977. 

In 35 years as a trial attorney, Steve has successfully represented plaintiffs and defendants in a wide variety of cases involving business disputes, property damage, and personal injury. He may be the only Iowa attorney to have juries in two separate civil cases return favorable verdicts on the same day. Steve’s remarkable courtroom record has been recognized repeatedly by his fellow attorneys. His ability to relate to people has taken him to the highest levels of leadership in Iowa’s legal community. 

Achievements and Highlights

• Recently Steve won, and then successfully defended on appeal, a $12.4 million jury verdict for the owners of an apartment complex plagued by multiple construction defects.
• Steve’s largest case to date involved two related lawsuits for $400,000,000.00 in property damage, four deaths, and many injuries resulting from the catastrophic explosion of an ammonium nitrate facility. 
• Steve was elected to serve as President of both the 2000-member Polk County Bar Association and the 8000-member Iowa State Bar Association.
